Cultural Icon George E. Johnson Sr.

George E. Johnson Sr. is the owner of Afro Sheen hair products. Afro Sheen was the first all Black company to be trade on the American Stock Exchange. The company was found in 1957 by George and his wife Joan. They start out with hair care products for men only, then to women.

George E. Johnson is a very private man, not much is known about his private life. He was born 1927, and is still living! He is from Richton, Mississippi, the son of a sharecropper. He moved to Chicago when he was eight (8) years old. He worked a few odd- end jobs before he worked for Samuel Fuller as cosmetic chemist. He then left the Samuel Fuller Co, to start his own company, and as they say the rest is history!

George E. Johnson, thank you
